Urban Works, Inc. in Honolulu, HI, US (United States)

Established in 1984, Urban Works is an ten-person firm, led by principals John J. Ida, AIA and Lorrin Matsunaga, AIA. We offer complete design services in Architecture, Planning and Interior Design for all size projects, from small residential to large commercial and institutional projects. 

This project was done for a design/build competition in conjuction with Lyle Hamasaki Construction, Inc. The project is within the lobby of the District Court Building in Honolulu. The design is based on the idea of Ho'okele, which is concerned with sailing, navigation and wayfinding. 

The Waikele Fire Station for Engine Company No. 42 is located along a major east-west divided roadway of a new mixed-use residential and commercial planned community in west Oahu. 

We believe that successful design solutions are based on a thoughtful and careful consideration of our client's needs, and that these solutions should always reflect the continual creative interaction between the design team and client during the entire design process. 

The 40,100 s.f. Squadron Operations Facility is located within a large, historically significant hangar. This historic structure was built in 1937 and is a part of the Hickam Air Field Historic Area.
